My husband and I were thinking of getting a puppy. I told him I wanted to research the breed of dog we should get, make sure the puppy interacts with us well, and not just choose one without doing a lot of research before-hand.
Well, that ALL went out the window when one of my co-workers, Ashley Wagner (who has fostered, and adopted two dogs from Erin’s Midwest ResQ) e-mailed us the picture of Sassafras. We instantly fell in love with her sweet face and set up a time with Erin to meet her a few days later.
Upon seeing Sassafras, our connection was mutual, she began licking us, playing with us, and cuddling with us immediately. There was no doubt we were taking her home with us. After filing the paperwork and re-naming her Rina (this was the name of the hurricane my husband I were caught in on our honeymoon in October 2011 in Playa Mujeres, Mexico), we took her home.
She has been SUCH a joy (and often times a challenge, in a good way!) to have…she loves to cuddle more than any dog I have ever seen, and also loves to play and go on walks. She is the most animated little dog I have ever seen, therefore I am always taking pictures of her – her looks say it all! Rina has opened our hearts to what it means to rescue a dog – that it not only saves dogs’ lives, but changes human lives forever.
